A journey of making small changes with big impact (Part 1)
This blog is the first of a series of blogs that will deal with small changes we all can make that will have a big impact on our lives in the longer run.
Making small, consistent changes can lead to significant and lasting improvements in various aspects of life, from personal well-being to professional success. The reality is that small changes are easier to integrate into daily routines. The repetition of these small changes will allow them to become habits and these habits are more sustainable over the long term.
The small changes that I am focusing on this month are specific to time:
Bed and wake-up time
Following the same bed and wake-up time (even on weekends!) is crucial for maintaining a healthy circadian rhythm, which regulates your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. This consistency helps improve sleep quality, reduce the risk of certain health problems, and enhance overall well-being.
Time for lunch and dinner
You digest your food better and enjoy your meals more when you slow down and focus on what you are eating with all your senses. This habit is not only necessary for your overall well-being, but also stabilise blood sugar and in doing so, ensures that we do not overeat. Keep a consistent eating schedule as much as possible so that your body knows when to expect breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The start and end to the day’s work
Whether you are working from home or in an office, make a habit of introducing rituals/processes to start and end the day. For example, in the afternoon, turn off, close and pack away your computer, tidy up your desk and make a list of things to do the next day. In the morning, set up your work space for success, review your list of things to do, plan how you will approach the day and only then get started. These processes help our mind to get ready for the task ahead and to switch off at the end of the day.
Choose just one of these small changes and over the course of the month you will be surprised as to how much this will add to your personal well-being. The challenge is on!
It is difficult to change overnight, but if you are persistent and take one step at a time you will see results! Jack Lalanne.
