“The Future Depends on What You Do Today”

Your beliefs create your reality, so what are your beliefs?

Beliefs are those ideas and concepts we accept as the truth without having any proof of it. Think of all the beliefs that are part of our heritage and culture. We don’t dispute them; we merely accept that they are true and continue to believe and practise them.

We are, in fact, the product of our beliefs passed on to us by religion, culture, society, our parents, friends, the educational institutions we attended, etc.

There are numerous beneficial beliefs. For example: the belief that we should treat the elderly with respect. Or, the belief that you can do something. If you believe that you are capable, competent, and deserving of your dream job, you are probably more likely to notice and seek out opportunities that could help you get there.

Some of you might consider this to be overconfidence. Yes, it might be true. However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Research suggests that confident people tend to appear more socially skilled and higher in social status, even when those assessing them have access to objective information about their actual ability.

By having beliefs that you can achieve, you not only raise your profile in your own mind, but also in the mind of others.

The challenge comes with the limiting beliefs, beliefs like: I am not good enough. I cannot pass this exam. I will never get a raise. These limiting beliefs probably stop you from even trying to become competent and capable, or finding a new job.

Our beliefs inform and motivate our actions. So, we have to continuously work on identifying our limiting beliefs and change them for the better. It all starts by being willing to continuously subject your beliefs to re-evaluation.

(1) Identify and write down those limiting beliefs.

(2) Also write down those new beliefs you would like to replace them with.

(3) Then visualise yourself having these new beliefs.

(4) Do it often. And the more you practise this, the more and more the new beliefs will imbed in your thinking and actions.

You have to do this for yourself. And your children. Most of all – do it for all those you come in contact with who are affected by your beliefs. Be the drop that cause a magnificent ripple effect for you and those around you.
