Stress has become the illness of our time!
At one point or another most people experience stress; this is absolutely normal. What isn’t normal is prolonged stress that might cause permanent damage to your body and mind. Continuous stress can lead to impaired cognitive functions. It can also lead to other significant health complications, such as increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Other systems of your body could also be impaired, including the digestive, excretory and reproductive structures.
Historically Millennials (born 1981-1996) and Generation Xers (born 1965-1980) reported the highest average stress levels however, over the last few years all generations have reported a considerable increase in stress to unhealthy levels. Since the start of the Covid-19 global pandemic, many countries have reported that they are facing a mental health crisis that could yield serious health and social consequences for years to come. A key contributor to the mental health crisis is considered to be unhealthy levels of stress.
