If you can see it, you can be it – the power of visualisation
What makes visualisation so powerful? Can using visualisation to create your reality really happen?
How often do we say: I cannot see this or that happening? And guess what – it is exactly what we get. If you cannot imagine and see yourself achieve something you will indeed not achieve it.
Everything that has ever been created or achieved first started as an idea in someone’s mind. Alexander Graham Bell had an idea to have people in different places speaking and he invented the telephone. The first great invention developed by Thomas Edison was the tin foil phonograph and it all started with a thought.
When you have an idea, you begin to focus your mental energy and emotions on it, and before you know it creates a desire in your mind to transform the vision to physical reality. Every idea you put on paper or read contains a mental image and feelings. In fact, as you are reading this your mind is creating images; you are in fact visualising.
My mom is really good at visualisation and as a child I was often astonished as to how she would create not only her, but also our reality!
Unfortunately, we spend an awful amount of time visualising and imagining the worst. Take worrying – we have the ability to clearly visualise and experience the worst-case scenario and then transforming it into reality! It is as if the universe is coming together to make your worst nightmare coming true.
Such a pity that we spend so much time and energy manifesting negative thoughts into reality.
Just imagine the life we can create if we focus our mental energy and emotions on the positive. Here is an easy approach to learn to visualise what you truly want in your life:
- Become clear on what you want
You might have a vague idea of what you want; now it is time to become crystal clear on it. If you for example want happiness; what does that happiness look like? If you want financial freedom; what does it look like? Unless you can be clear on exactly what you want, you can’t visualise it clearly.
It is crucial that you focus on you want as opposed to what you think others want you to have. You have to be in love with what you want.
- Write it down
Writing something down helps to crystallise the idea. When you can articulate what you want in a short, concise and meaningful way, you know that you are clear on what you want. This is in fact your test! You can even test it with others – tell them in a single sentence exactly what you would like to achieve and how you would feel.
- Make time to practise visualisation
Creating a vividly clear picture in your mind takes some time. Close your eyes and clearly see yourself having that dream you have. The more time you spend on this; the more energy you infuse into the dream and the sooner it will come into reality.
- Add emotions and crystal-clear images
Merely seeing yourself achieving or living your dream is not enough. You have to add emotions to the visualisation. If you see yourself completing a marathon, feel all those amazing feelings you would have when you do – the sense of achievement, happiness, pride, etc. Make those emotions intense and 100% real.
Make the images crystal-clear: what would you wear? How would you stand? The clearer the images, the easier it is to move your dream to reality.
- Reinforce
Make a daily appointment with yourself to practise your visualisation. Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison did not think about their inventions only once, but spent most of their days on it. You should do the same – the more often you practise your visualisation, the clearer the path would become and the sooner you will live it.
All the best for 2020; may it be a fantastic year to all of you – see how amazing this year will be and it will certainly be the case!
