What morning habits can enhance your energy?
This time of year many people experience depleted energy levels and wonder how they will make it through the last three months of the calendar year. Herewith a couple of tips and tricks that will allow you to be fresh and ready to tackle the challenges of each day.
Focus on positive self-talk
According to research we have 65 000 to 90 000 thoughts per day; and only 15% of these are positive. Speaking to yourself as a friend and cheering yourself on at the beginning of a day, is a wonderful way to set yourself up for success.
Start the day with a lemon bang
Research shows that drinking lemon water as soon as you wake up has many health benefits: It detoxes your body and cleanses the digestive system, it provides you with a steady, natural energy boost and it improves nutrient absorption in your digestive system. So grab that cup of warm water with a dash of lemon every morning.
Get a song to lift your spirit
Music can have a significant impact on your mood. Listening to inspiring music during your morning routine will energise you for the rest of the day. Please don’t start the day with the world news and other demotivating messages. Remember, you would like to set yourself up for success.
Be one step ahead with morning exercises
Doing some exercises in the morning not only wakes you up, but also improves blood circulation, improves oxygen levels in the blood, releases feel-good hormones and reduces stress. As little as 10 minutes is enough to make a difference to your day.
Feel the sun
Sunlight cues the body to produce hormones and substances that increase alertness. It is also vital for the production of vitamin D, a vitamin that plays a role in regulating mood and decreasing the risk of depression.
Practice gratitude
We are ordinarily so focused on what we don’t have that we forget what we do have. Feeling grateful for even the little things in life is a perfect morning habit that will help you to start your day on a positive note and will give you enough energy to keep you going through the challenges of the day. It reinforces happiness and positivity. You can even consider keeping a gratitude journal. On those days when you find it very hard to think of something to be grateful for, you can always look back at everything you have recorded in your gratitude journal.
Fuel your body with the right breakfast
Food is fuel for your body. For those that enjoy breakfast, be sure to have a breakfast filled with the right nutrients, for example: eggs with avocado and veggies are a much better option than granolas or sugary cereals.
Set goals for the day
Your morning routine should include a focus on your objections for the day and how you plan to achieve those. Research shows that having concrete goals is correlated with an increased level of confidence and feelings of control. Setting goals specific to the day puts everything into motion. Ensure those goals are achievable, i.e. do not commit to more than what is possible. Then break them down into the actions required.
All the best for the last three months of the year!
